Lublin enters the closing stage of the high-ranking competition for the European Capital of Culture 2029 title. Following this decision of international experts, Lublin bid was selected from 12 cities in Poland. Katowice, Bielsko-Biała and Kołobrzeg were also shortlisted in the final stage of competition.
Lublin is applying for the European Capital of Culture 2029 title under the catchphrase "Re:union". European Capital of Culture 2029 bid was designed together with Lublin cultural background: artists, community workers and animators.
Centre for Culture, Lublin cultural institution is the supervisor of application proceedings. As part of the open call for projects, over 300 ideas for European Capital of Culture Lublin 2029 programme planning were submitted. A consultation point, "Information Zone", will be reopened on November, 7 at the Centre for Culture. Anyone interested can learn more about Lublin's application for the European Capital of Culture 2029, submit their comments and suggestions.
The concluding decision of ECoC 2029 and the announcement of Winning City are scheduled for mid-2024.
Lublin has already been competing for the title of the European Capital of Culture 2016. At that time, it reached the final stage of the competition. The title of the European Capital of Culture is transitive. A selected Polish city will receive it in 2029. The selection of the winning city takes place five years before the year of the celebration, followed by a long-term preparation process.
