The main route in Park Ludowy has officially been named the European Youth Capital Lublin 2023. A plaque with the name of the Avenue was unveiled, a commemorative tree was planted and a time capsule was buried for future generations on Friday (October, 20).

In this exceptional year, Lublin is governed by young people. We listen and learn from them what kind of world they want to reside in, what values are fundamental to them and what assistance they expect from us. This Ceremony enhances European Youth Capital 2023 programme and concurrently emphasizes youth role in decision-making process about the future of city. I am delighted that your voice was present on this solemn day. I appreciate your attendance, passion and commitment to make this event unforgettable - says Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of Lublin.

A significant part of the Ceremony was to plant a commemorative tree and to bury a time capsule to be opened in 2123, at the earliest. It included roughly 50 components related to Lublin and 2023, the Year of Youth.

This event confirms the potential and youth engagement in our city, their unique energy and inspiring ideas. Together, we created the successful application and we are the most youth-friendly city in the country and in Europe. From now on, the title of European Youth Capital has gained a symbolic spot and will remain with us for future generations - says Beata Stepaniuk-Kuśmierzak, Deputy Mayor of Lublin for Culture, Sport and Participation, Plenipotentiary of Mayor for the European Youth Capital.

After the official unveiling of the plaque with name of the Avenue, a Parade with the participation of 200 young people walked along its route. It was led by Belriguardo Early Dance Ensemble. Moreover, a choir from the 9th Secondary School performed with guest appearance by Monika Kowalczyk. The resolution to name the Park Avenue "European Youth Capital Lublin 2023" was adopted by the City Council at its session on April 27, 2023.
