Summer festivals in a new form
20.08.202012:04

Every year during the summer holidays, Lublin was bustling with life. The festival time started at the beginning of June, during the magical Night of Culture. Many participants gathered at the East of Culture – Different Sounds festival, many of us waited for the Jagiellonian Fair and Carnaval Sztukmistrzów. Not only were Lublin's festivals anticipated by residents, but also by numerous tourists. The coronavirus outbreak turned the schedule of events topsy-turvy. Some of the festivals were postponed to appear with a brand new formula, number of participants was limited and the performances of overseas artists were cancelled.

Despite the difficult situation, the Jagiellonian Fair and the Multicultural Lublin Festival will be held in August, while the East of Culture - Different Sounds and Carnaval Sztukmistrzów are to be held in September.

Festival “Latent City/Open City” - August 17 - October 17

“Latent City/Open City” Festival begins on August, 17. The venue for this year’s “Latent City/Open City” festival will be the Saski Park, an object of cultural heritage, and selected spaces of the historic centre of Lublin. In the park, a contemporary art exhibition is to be opened to the wide public. Instead of conspicuous manifestation of the presence of art in public spaces during an opening tour around the streets of Lublin, this year will be marked by a less spectacular series of openings of individual works. The “Latent City/Open City” exhibition will emerge in a number of incarnations, mysteriously and unexpectedly.

Jagiellonian Fair – August, 21-23

The Jagiellonian Fair is a celebration of folk and traditional culture. The audience discovers their past and modern manifestations through music, dance, song, entertainment, exhibitions, workshop and activities scattered across the city space. Let's meet on August, 21-23 to celebrate the annual celebration of traditional culture! The main topic of this year's festival is herbiculture. The spider-like chandelier decoration (so called “pająk”) presented during the festival in the Krakowska Gate will also have a herbal character.

Due to the safety reasons, this year's Fair will be presented in a more modest way - about 100 exhibitors will take part in it. One of the most important items on the festival agenda is the re:tradition concert which brings together modern and early traditional music performers to put on a show creating a completely new musical quality. This part of the Fair is not be missed this year, either! For all the events, there is a mandatory registration. Special restrictions will also apply to concerts at the Square by the Lublin Castle. Registration for the events started on August, 12 via the website . The number of places is limited, admission procedure is determined by the first-come, first-served basis with the health declaration.

The full festival programme is available here.

Multicultural Lublin - August, 28-30

Multicultural Lublin is a festival celebrating cultural diversity of contemporary Lublin. It promotes tolerance and intercultural dialogue through educational and cultural activities of high artistic value. The intention of the organisers is to overcome barriers in intercultural relations, improve the quality of social bonds and debunk existing stereotypes. Meetings and presentations give Lublin residents a great chance to notice the presence of other cultures, religions and traditions in our city.

East of Culture: Different Sounds Art’n’Music Festival - September, 3-6

The East of Culture: Different Sounds Art’n’Music Festival takes the audience to the most exciting journey across musical phenomena at the interface of genres, traditions, and cultural influences. This is certainly one of the most inspiring and revealing musical events in Poland that attracts both world music stars and those who have just got discovered. Carnaval Sztukmistrzów - September, 17-20

This year’s edition of Carnaval Sztukmistrzów will take the form of a showcase of Polish contemporary circus productions on a scale that has never been seen before. The 11th edition of Carnaval Sztukmistrzów, as unique as the entire year 2020, will focus on premieres of Polish circus shows. The festival with the name “The Polish Incident” will take place between 17-20 September on several outdoor stages. Another integral part of Carnaval Sztukmistrzów is Urban Highline Festival which because of the pandemic will be a little limited this year. You will also be able to admire highliners at a unique photo exhibition presented in Vivo! Shopping Centre – the festival’s partner.
