Lublin's support for Ukraine has been far-reaching: from financial and humanitarian, to emergency, military and budget support.
On April, 5, President of Ukraine honoured Lublin with the title of "City-Rescuer". During the visit to Lublin region, Volodymyr Zelensky appreciated the devotion of Lublin to help Ukrainians and granted this honorable distinction, in person, to Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of Lublin.
For us, help for Ukraine means, for example, Ms. Olena, who came here with her two sons at the beginning of war. They could have lost their eyes as a result of a rocket strike, but Lublin ophthalmologists saved their eyesight. Moreover, it means also children, women and men, whom we have supported thus far. And thousands of volunteers who, a few hours after the first attacks, were already ready to help, to open the doors of their homes to strangers. I am proud that we could show how exposed and honest our hearts are. I would like to thank Mr. Volodymyr Zełenski for this great distinction for our City and Residents - says Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of Lublin.
The President of Ukraine honored Lublin for comprehensive help and solidarity shown to the Ukrainian nation and for supporting Ukraine in defending its independence and sovereignty. Lublin has become one of the main centers where Ukrainian refugees have seeked shelter. The "City-Rescuer" title was established last year by Volodymyr Zelensky as a sign of gratitude to the partner cities that had been engaged in helping Ukraine and its citizens after the russian invasion.
This title was also awarded to: Rzeszów, Przemyśl and Chełm.
