Irena Hochman

Outstanding figure, a world-famous art merchant, for years related with Lublin where she was born, spent her childhood and early teenage years. Due to the anti-Semitism wave in 1968, she was forced to leave Poland and move to New York with her entire family, where she began her professional career. Ms. Irena Hochman is the owner of an art gallery in New York, she also runs her business in London. She evaluates contemporary art works, cooperates with numerous galleries and world-renowned artists. Ms. Irena Hochman also has had an invaluable influence on the work of Tadeusz Mysłowski and his art collection development.

In 2017, Ms. Irena Hochman, together with Tadeusz Mysłowski, donated to the City of Lublin, through the National Museum in Lublin, a collection of contemporary art works that had been piled up for over half a century. This collection has had a significant impact on visual art promotion and a social impact on the inhabitants of Lublin.

Through her work, Ms. Irena Hochman contributed significantly to the cultural life development in Lublin, to building the status and strengthening the position of Lublin as a recognizable cultural centre in Poland.
She was bestowed Honorary Citizenship by Resolution No. 1443/XLIX/2023 of the Lublin City Council of April 27, 2023.
