PROFESSOR ANDRZEJ NIKODEMOWICZ

A composer, pianist and teacher, born 2 January 1925 in Lvov. In 1943-46, he studied chemistry at the Lvov Technical University. In 1950, he graduated in composition under Adam Sołtys, and in 1954 in piano under the supervision of Tadeusz Majerski at Lvov Conservatory. In 1951-73, he taught composition, theory of music and piano at his parent school. In 1973, he was removed from his job for political reasons by the communist authorities. In 1980, he moved to Poland and settled in Lublin. He taught theoretical subjects and composition at the Institute of Artistic Education of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University and at the Institute of Musicology of the Catholic University of Lublin. In 1982-92, he was choir director at the Theological College. In 1995, he was appointed full professor. The Honorary Citizenship was conferred by Resolution No 813/XXXV/2009 of the Lublin City Council of 15 October 2009.
