The Church of St. Josaphat, a former Greek Orthodox Church

The Church of St. Josaphat, a former Greek Orthodox Church
Address: ul. Zielona 3
Place: Lublin
Post code: 20-082

The church was erected in 1790 after the Greek merchants had been granted a permit by King Stanislaw August Poniatowski in 1786. At that time, the Orthodox church belonged to the Patriarchate in Constantinople. In 1833 the building was extended and renovated, and in 1857 a bell tower on the west side of the facade was added, according to the design of the architect Ferdynand Konotkiewicz. Then, the church passed into the hands of the Russian Orthodox Church. After being taken over by Catholics in 1922, the church was rebuilt. In the post-war period, it was renovated several times.

At present, it serves as the rector's church. Until recently, the facility was also used by the Greek Catholics, i.e. the supporters of the Union of Brest.
