The H.C.Andersen Theatre performed in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Greece, Denmark, Austria, Pakistan, Japan and France.
The Theatre received numerous awards, such as Grand Prix for Old Polish Triptych (Tryptyk Staropolski), special prize at the Biennial of Art for Children in Poznan for The Snow Queen, a gold medal for Where Are You Going, Little Horse (Dokąd pędzisz koniku) at the International Golden Dolphin festival in Varna, an award for Tales from the Kingdom of Lailonia for Young and Old (Opowieści z Królestwa Lailonii dla dużych i małych) at the All Polish Festival of Puppet Theatres in Wroclaw, and many others.
Presently, the Theatre puts on five premieres a year at two stages. It has in its repertoire such plays as Tales from the Kingdom of Lailonia for young and Old based on Leszek Kołakowski’s texts, Angel's Wing (Skrzydło Anioła), an original play by Leszek Mądzik, a musical The Wind in the Willows – based on the book by Kenneth Grahame, Purpurella by Jadwiga Kofta, The Brothers Lionheart by Astrid Lindgren and a poetic musical Winged Joanna (Joanna Skrzydlata) written by Joanna Kulmowa.
Contemporary Hans Christian Andersen Theatre consequently introduces new productions and is not afraid to present diverse topics or to mix conventions. Synthetic poetic theatre is based on the korczakian principle stating that "a child is also a human being". We are the theatre of dialogue on both sides of the footlights.
