The building of the former Government of Governorate

The building of the former Government of Governorate
Address: Plac Litewski 5
Place: Lublin
Post code: 20-080

The Governorate Palace was built according to the design of Julian Ankiewicz. It is a neoclassical building connected through a gallery with the Palace of the Radziwiłł Family. It is considered one of the most beautiful palaces in Lublin.

In the second half of the 19th century, the Palace of the Lubomirski Family, the seat of the authorities of the Lublin governorate, was too small for the needs of growing bureaucracy. As early as September 28, 1852, the Governor wrote a report on the necessity to build a building that would accommodate all the departments of the Governorate Government, which at that time occupied 5 distant buildings. This building was to be built on the grounds of the old gardens and cemetery of the Fatebenefratelli church. The building was erected as the seat of the Governorate Government. After World War I, there were offices of the District Headquarters of the 2nd Corps of the Polish Army as well as the Provincial Office. After World War II the building, abandoned by the German authorities, became the property of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. Nowadays, the building is used for didactic and scientific purposes by the Faculty of Psychology of the university, and it also houses the Alliance Française.
