Main celebrations of the 450th anniversary of the Union of Lublin

The nobility and knights will walk along the streets of Lublin. King Sigismund Augustus along with Jan Kochanowski will travel together in a carriage. An Air show by Acrobatic Team ISKRA will pass over the Lithuanian Square. These are just some of the attractions due to the main celebrations of the Union of Lublin anniversary in June 28 - July 4.

“ We have not chosen random dates for the main celebrations of the jubilee - the day of the union's formation in 1569 (June 28), and the date of its ratification by King Sigismund Augustus (July 4). We have prepared various attractions during the seven day feast - knight’s re-enactments, concerts, early and modern culture, exhibitions and performances. Residents of the city and everyone who will visit Lublin at that time, will become a participant in unique spectacles. All events are open. I cordially invite you to celebrate together the event wit us!” says Krzysztof Żuk, the President of Lublin.

Camp of Polish and Lithuanian nobility – the Lithuanian Square

Most of the events will be held in a symbolic place – the Lithuanian Square. The name commemorates the tradition of camping Lithuanian nobilities during the Lublin Parliament in 1569. It is also the place where the monument of the Union of Lublin is located. For the 450th birthday of the Union of Lublin, the Lithuanian Square will turn into a large camp of nobles and knights as a reconstruction place.

Lithuanian music stage

Within the project “Lithuanian focus” during the festival East Of Culture - Different Sounds 2019, there will be literary meetings, publishing premieres, film screenings, photo and book exhibitions, workshops for children and discussions on the Lithuanian culture.

The Union of Lublin Day – 1 July

The Holy Mass and Ecumenical Prayer will take place in the Basilica of Dominicans and also Lublin City Council ceremonial session will be held at the Lublin Castle courtyard. After the session, a colourful, Renaissance parade will start from the Lublin Castle to the Lithuanian Square. An Air show by Acrobatic Team ISKRA over the Square will make the Day even more attractive. On that occasion, the National Bank of Poland will launch a silver collector coin with a nominal value of PLN 20.

An early music concert and dolls exhibition

Lithuanian Square will also become a stage of early music concerts.

There will also be strolls with the Lublin guides "Traces of the Union of Lublin" and 450 minutes with the Union of Lublin, translated into a Polish sign language.

Congress Ut unum sint and Festival of Two Nations

At the end of the 450th anniversary of the Union of Lublin, the Ut unum sint Congress will take place (4-7 July) - a meeting of children's choirs and the Festival of Two Nations (5-7 July) presenting the dance culture of Poland, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine.

Exhibition „From the Union of Lublin to the European Union”

The exhibition "From the Union of Lublin to the European Union" will be presented in the Lithuanian Square from 30 June until 21 July 2019 . It will present the place of Lublin in the formation of the European community of nations.
