ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Splat!FilmFest – International Fantastic Film Festival is the biggest genre film festival in Poland. The organizers say that they have been scaring the Lublin audience since 2015 and their mission is "to present dark, brutal, wild, and beautiful cinema".

The core of the festival programme is made up of premiere screenings of the best and most important horror films from all around the world which are not yet in distribution in Poland. The majority of the films are Polish premieres of features shot in Europe and all around the world, made by outstanding contemporary film-makers as well as debutants.

We don’t want false, polished, slick films – we prefer them rough, unpolished, but alive; we don’t want rosy films – we want them the colour of blood - The Film-makers’ Cooperative, 1962.

PROGRAM

Program is divided into sections.

FEAR AND TERROR serves terrifying and brutal movies such as: feministic „The Wind” being a western and horror movie hybrid, „Dachra” an extremely disturbing and dark Tunisian movie referring to folk horror and witch legends, „Lords of Chaos” an extreme story of a Norwegian black metal band Mayhem, „Knife+Heart” where Vanessa Paradise embodies the producer of gay porn, or „Cutterhead” a claustrophobic experience full of allegories about migration and capitalism.

WTF section consists of uncanny titles. Quentin’s Dupieux („The rubber” director) „Au poste!” newest movie is a witty, black comedy kept in the mood of the French cinema combined with theatrical aesthetics. Truly absurd „Relaxer” presents a video game player who turns his life of a couch potato into a nightmare.

Splat!FilmFest wouldn’t be the same without the cycle HORRIBLY FUNNY. It consists of movies like bloody „Office Uprising” about the hostile corporate work environment, „Matar a Dios” in a truly Hispanic style, or a two-part thriller „Best F(r)iends”, with the duo Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero in the lead roles. It’s a movie even more extraordinary than their famous „The Room”.

This year’s special section is TROMA! It includes low-budget productions from the American studio that stuns, skeeves, and mocks all that is holy for over 40 years now. And it has fun while doing it. Troma has on its conscience a cinema that is bad and steams with kitsch but due to that approach, it is one of the most iconic film studios in the world having a loyal fanbase (Quentin Taratino is one of them). Lloyd Kaufman, director, co-founder of TROMA will be a special guest at Splat!FilmFest during his first visit in Poland!

Iconic cinema and masterpiece world horror movies – that is the CULT CLASSICS section, where the best horror movies of all time will be presented. Dario Argento’s „Suspiria” for the first time in Poland, remastered to 4K, the first part in „Halloween” franchise which this year has its 40th anniversary will be accompanied with live voice-over by Maciej Gudowski.

This year’s festival in Lublin is made with the support of the City of Lublin.
