The Jagiellonian Fair is a festival of traditional culture which is presented in its many forms, ranging from folk art through music, song, dance as well as ludic activities for education and learning. Just like during ancient fairs, the streets fill with unique designs and patterns presented by folk artists from Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania. The displays will be accompanied by lace presentations and workshops as lace is the main theme of this year’s edition. It will be an opportunity to admire the artistry, meticulousness and diligence behind the work of the artisans.
A special event at this year’s festival will be the next installment of “re:tradition”, a concert at which renowned Polish musicians team up with masters of traditional music. We will also hear Mongolian music with French-Bulgarian accents performed by Violons Barbares and Cypriot tunes performed by Monsieur Doumani. Music will also ring out in the streets and during nighttime dance parties. We will hear acclaimed folk ensembles, including Zdzisław Marczuk’s band, the bagpipe band Manugi from Bukowiec Górny as well as Warszawska Kapela Sentymentalna who will perform pre-war Polish songs at the dance party.
Another attraction at the Fair is the Jagiellonian Fair Playground – a zone of traditional games, pastimes and plays for families. The theatre company, Teatr Makata will present a special production inspired by the hen – the symbol of the Jagiellonian Fair. We will take part in special themed tours and see exhibitions and movies on various aspects of traditional culture which are still alive today.
