Cinema

We already know the 2019 Oscar nominations! The Centre for Culture will remind several Oscar-winning proposals: "Lighthouse" as one of the most important films from the last year. It is a psychological horror film directed and produced by Robert Eggers, who co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Max Eggers. Shot in black-and-white with a 1.19:1 aspect ratio, the film stars Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson as two lighthouse keepers who start to lose their sanity when a storm strands them on the remote island where they are stationed. The alternative film is "Marriage History". It is a 2019 drama film written, directed and produced by Noah Baumbach. It stars Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson. The film follows a married couple (Johansson and Driver) going through a coast-to-coast divorce. The story of Nicole (Scarlett Johannson) and Charlie (Adam Driver), whose marriage begins to fall apart when new career options appear before them.

Three screenings of the film "Kod Dedala/Daedalus Code" will be projected in the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures. This thriller tells the story of nine translators who are locked up altogether to translate the last part of the best-selling series. By the time the effects of their secret work appear on the Internet, they must determine who the thief is.

Concerts

The concert of the B6 band is taking place in Radio Lublin on Friday. Their song "Okulary" has been at the top of the record music charts for half a year.

Although Christmas time has already passed, you can still listen to Christmas carols. The band TGD (polish: Trzecia Godzina Dnia – polish, pop-gospel christian choir) will perform with Kuba Badach as a guest on Saturday at the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures.

Singing carols will also be held at Dworek Wincentego Pola (Wincenty Pol’s Manor House).

Saturday concert of flamenco carols and Sunday Jewish songs are the music proposals of Hades Szeroka Restaurant.

The concert “From Opole to San Remo” returns this weekend - hits of well-known and beloved artists such as: Maryla Rodowicz, Ewa Demarczyk, Anna Jantar, Anna German, Danuta Rinn, Jerzy Połomski, Andrzej Rosiewicz, Piotr Szczepanik, Dalida, Romina Power & Al Bano, Demis Roussos, Drupi, 2 plus 1 or Boney M.

Zespół Muzyki Dawnej Filharmonii Lubelskiej will perform in Lublin Philharmonic this Sunday.

Moreover, there is “Sunday Music Morning: Christmas Carols with Grandma and Grandpa" at the Lublin Philharmonic due to their holiday days being held next week (Jan, 21st and 22nd).

Exhibitions

NEONart is a unique project in Poland and probably in the world where 18 artists have designed 13 artistic neon lights for one city!

In the Labirynt Gallery/Plaza, there is an ongoing exhibition "O codzienności w sztuce". It is open until Sunday!

In Galeria Biała, the vernissage of exhibition by Artur Trojanowski “Przypadek jako wypadkowa wielu zmiennych” will take place on Friday.

Meetings

On Friday, as every week, we will discover Lublin of the Jagiellonian Union with a guide (with the Via Jagiellonica Foundation).

Jacek Fedorowicz will host the meeting at Czuby Południowe District Community Centre within the "Friday evening time" series. The artist will talk about his books, including "W zasadzie tak" and the brand new one – "Mistrz offu".

Moreover, this Friday, the question and answer meeting with Ewa Frączek and Maciej Filipek, will be an opportunity to listen to poets awarded in the First Polish Literary Competition organised by the Institute of Literature.

Workshops

This January weekend is filled with workshops!

With Workshops of Culture you can reveal the secrets of making photos. You may also grasp the image of the photographer's work from a last century! You are invited to a photo workshop on Friday!

The Sztukmistrze Foundation offers joint, open, aerial trainings. But be carefull! Classes are directed to people who already have experience in working with aerial props.

Lubartowska 77 invites all children and their parents to a workshop where you can perform eatible gifts for a grandmother and a grandfather. Children will create 2 beautiful presents they can hand in to their grandparents. The classes will be conducted by Agata Kornacka, the author of the Czas na Zielone blog.

The Szpilka Foundation organises workshops of singing the Southern Podlasie songs. It will include not only breathing exercises, singing and learning traditional songs of this region, but also the history of local tradition.

Edu Labirynt proposes two workshops on Saturday:

  • family workshops for children 6-12 years old
  • and Tiny Artists - creative workshop with elements of English language learning for kids aged 3-6 . These classes develop not only children’s imagination and creative and spatial instincts but also their language skills. During the workshop children, with the help of their parents/caretakers, create art pieces while learning basic English vocabulary in the process.

On Saturday, though, calligraphy workshops will be held at the House of Words.

Sport

5 kilometer-winter running, or a parkrun in the Saski Garden will take place on Saturday!

And maybe on Sunday some exercises around the Zemborzycki Reservoir? During the January walk we will search for the ready-to-harvest herbs.

For children

Winter holidays are in full swing! Workshops of Culture invite the youngest to Zimowa Majsternia workshops (for children aged 7-11) on Saturday. During the class, the participants will become little architects. After a general introduction to the work of architects, they will design and place buildings on a jointly prepared map.

Others

Festival of board and card games - Board Mania is back! The event is being held at the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures. This is the seventh edition of the convention in Poland devoted to games without electricity. Whereas on Friday Analogowe NOCNE Granie.
