Another competition ‘The City of Culture as part of the European Capital of Culture Lublin 2029’

The city of Lublin invites non-governmental organisations to the second multiannual competition of the year ‘the City of Culture as part of the European Capital of Culture Lublin 2029’. The recruitment will last until the 12th of April this year. The city will allocate PLN 2,1 million in total for this project.

The main idea of the City of Culture competition is Re:union, which is the catchphrase of our application for the ECoC 2029 title. We have proposed to non-governmental organisations that their projects, planned for the years 2024-2026, focus on the search for areas for reintegration, cross-generational dialogue, or international cooperation. They responded to us with a huge number of excellent ideas. It encouraged us to organise another competition. I invite the representatives of non-governmental organisations to submit their ideas in the second recruitment for which we allocate over PLN 2 million - says Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of the City of Lublin.

‘The City of Culture as part of the European Capital of Culture Lublin 2029’ project will perform initiatives on a city, regional, national and international scale within creating and popularising culture to improve the quality of Lublin residents’ life. The implementation of the project requires continuation beyond the budget year. Due to Lublin’s participation in the final stage of the European Capital of Culture competition, the ideas based on Re:union theme will be given the preference. The Re:union theme must be understood as reintegration, reconnection of broken bonds, cross-generational, cross-sectoral, and cross-cultural dialogues referring to the historical and pioneering concept of the Lublin Union. An important criterion for projects for the ECoC 2029 is their potential for international cooperation, exchange, co-creation with partners for Europe. A project should aim to involve social changes and impact on the city and its residents. Proposed ideas may define cultural and social problems and suggest solutions. We will also give the preference for the projects that have been part of the city’s cultural calendar for many years and introduce innovative solutions. Due to the financial support over a three-year perspective, their organisers will gain stability and the opportunity for planning long-term activities.

In this competition, there has been allocated a total amount of PLN 2.1 million for the implementation of tasks in the field of culture and art. The amount is PLN 500,000 for the current year, and it is PLN 800,000 each for the 2025 and 2026 years.

Ideas will be accepted until 12th of April at 3:30 p.m. Documents must be submitted obligatorily using the ‘WITKAC’ internet platform available at www.witkac.pl and in paper form accordingly with the electronic version at the Culture Department of the City of Lublin (Złota 2 Street) or at the Citizens Service Bureaus. The ideas can also be sent by snail mail or via the Electronic Submission Box (ESP, Elektroniczna Skrzynka Podawcza) of the Lublin City Office available on the Electronic Platform of Public Administration Services (ePUAP). The date of receipt of documents by the Lublin City Office determines the compliance with the deadline for submitting documents.

The city of Lublin has qualified for the second and final stage of the prestigious competition for the title of European Capital of Culture for the year 2029. According to the decision of international experts, the Lublin application was selected from among 12 cities in Poland. Bielsko-Biała, Katowice, and Kołobrzeg also made it to the ‘short’ list in the strict final of the competition.

Detailed information about the competition is available on the Lublin City Office’s BIP website
